Meet Abrasham Fiossa, the Iconic Magus
I’m so very excited to present to you the first of the iconic characters for the Kazarim Campaign Setting: the asreih magus Abrasham Fiossa. Karen Neil created some amazing art that I am so very pleased to share with you today!
Undeath and Word Play
“Gordon Shu told me he would be down here,” Oris said. “But I don’t understand why a prestigious playwright would drag himself down into the arse-end of the city… at night, without guards.” The katasuro was craven, but he was also right about the dangers of Dunbarth’s notorious Harshborg slums. Even during the day, it wasn’t safe to wander much past the main streets near the entrance.
Abrasham waved one of her gloved hands, causing a flicker of light to dance around her shoulders. “He also said something about getting into the soul of the story,” she said.
A lurching form in the darkness ahead of them brought Abrasham’s right hand up, already curled into a magical gesture, while her other hand pulled the chicken-saber Oris had given her on her birthday. Oris went wide-eyed, trying to see in the darkness. Several additional shapes joined the first: humanoid, with a stuttering gait that suggested domination—or animation.
“I think we might get our own souls sucked into this story,” Oris said nervously. The shuffling forms stopped at the edge of her light, but asreih see very well in the dark, and katasuro better, so they could discern the death wounds on the creatures’ bodies, the flesh and clothing hanging in tatters. Zombies.
“How right you are,” Gordon Shu’s voice drifted through the darkness, silky and smug. Abrasham couldn’t see him exactly, but two pinpricks of light stared at her from the darkness beyond the zombies. “I’m so glad you decided to join me.”
Abrasham Fiossa, KWR
Knight of the Wraith, Kazarim of the Circle of Lost Summers
Abrasham Kiossa is an asreih magus. She is a former captain in the National Army of Euashollor, where she earned a knighthood in the Order of the Wraith. Several years ago, Abrasham decided to resign and become a kazarim. Since then, she’s signed on with pirate hunters and monster killers, but her most recent expedition is with the Circle of Lost Summers—a kazarim circle that has rallied to the Dunbarthi faction in the Loreng Fel Civil War after the razing of the village of Trunks. For Abrasham, this is personal. One of her good friends, a hostler and innkeeper named Gorvin Adenieu, was among those slaughtered by Imperial troops at Trunks.
She is currently in nashak stage of the asren life cycle, which she prefers to her chevan stage. To this end, she has carefully tended to her body every day since her verahim were revealed, rubbing oil into her skin and applying various magical spells and alchemical extracts in an attempt to preserve her current biological state. She knows she’ll eventually succumb in time, but she wants to make it last as long as possible.
As a magus, Abrasham relies on spells and wands as much as possible, resorting to her sword only when absolutely necessary. However, she does have some skill with a blade, and uses a masterwork chicken saber the one of her companions, the katsuro mesmerist Oris the Ever-Watchful, made for her last birthday.
