Pathfinder: Kingmaker CRPG
Super excited that this game dropped Tuesday. I’ve been looking forward to this for some time. The technology seems to have caught up to the storytelling elements a great deal… I mean, nothing will replace the tabletop for me, but I only get to do that a couple times per month, so having a PC game really helps feed the gaming addiction in the meantime.
GameSpot has an interesting interview with one of the best: Chris Avellone, who has writing credits on a whole cadre of important games in the genre, including a personal favorite, Planescape: Torment. I’d love to game with Avellone; I bet the sessions are awesome. In particular, his mention of an Ocean’s Eleven-style D&D game is great, as is his comment about the PC game:
Overall, I think what's kind of cool is if you're playing a chaotic evil character, someone else plays lawful good, and then you guys talk about the game. Then suddenly you're like, "Yeah, I like trolls in my kingdom. They're like the best armed forces I've ever had," and the lawful good guy's like, "What? You're allowed to do that?" I'm like, "Yeah, it's pretty cool. I wiped out that enemy army" and he's like, "I had a hell of a time with that enemy army!"
That level of attention to detail is going to be fun to play with.
