Matrika Part 2... or is it Felicity Part 2?
I started in earnest on the second book of Matrika’s story yesterday. I’ve sketched out some high points to the narrative, but I’m not sure I’d exactly call it outlining.
Calling her Matrika is a bit of a misnomer though. Although that is her alias in the first book, her real name is Felicity Whitehall, and she didn’t become as tied to her cover identity as much as I had anticipated originally. Early versions of Dragonlines had Felicity/Matrika be a conflict in itself, but this never really manifested well in the story, so I took that subplot out. It might come back at some point, but we aren’t there yet.
The first scene begins three months after the end of the previous book, with Felicity convalescing in Northern Ireland at the Causeway Hotel, because I love that place. I thought I had some photos of the hotel itself, but here’s a picture of the path to the Giant’s Causeway just outside. My wife and I went on our honeymoon there and fell in love with the place. Of course I had to use it in a story.
